Test Taking Strategies to Help You Do Your Best

Follow these test taking tips to ensure you do your best on upcoming exams.

Stay Positive

Maintaining a calm and positive attitude during any test will help you perform at your best. Studying for the test and ensuring you're prepared will help you stay positive and have confidence in your abilities. Rely on your knowledge and don't second guess yourself. If you get stuck on a hard question, it may be hard to stay positive. If this is the case, simply re-read the question, gather the relevant information, and try your best to solve it. If you still aren't sure what the answer is, take your best shot and avoid getting overwhelmed.

Manage Your Time Wisely

When you receive your test, look it over and decide about how much time you should spend on each part. To make the most of your time, start by answering the easiest questions first. This will prevent you from losing time on harder questions. Go back to the harder questions and use the rest of your time answering these. If you have extra time at the end, review your answers before turning in your exam.

Write Legibly

Writing legibly can make a difference between a right answer and a wrong answer. Be sure your handwriting is clear and easy to read, especially for whoever will be grading the test. Issues can arise if your fours look like nines or if a word appears to be misspelled because of messy penmanship. If you're taking a math test, it's also important that you write down the correct units and make decimal points visible.
